How can economists best contribute to pandemic prevention and preparedness?
Preventing and mitigating future pandemics requires good policies. Despite that, pandemic preparedness has received surprisingly little attention from economists. Covid-19 will not be the last pandemic. How can economists help avoid another global health catastrophe?
I investigated this question during a research internship at the Swiss Existential Risk Initiative. I summarised what I learned in a blog post, including:
- a brief history of pandemic economics so far,
- arguments in favor and against working on this as an economist, and
- a list of promising research questions.
